In honour of International Women’s Day, Alliance is hosting a series of films entitled “Panafricaines”, proposed by the regional audiovisual attaché of the French Embassy in Senegal and in The Gambia.
➡ An opportunity to question the place of women in society across generations and territories.
🗣 For this event, we will be screening a short film and then a feature-length film that echo each other. The screening will provide an opportunity for lively discussion. Thus, at the end of the screening, there will be a debate led by women involved in the African film industry to kick-start the discussion. The debate will be around “Women’s traditions’ reception and appropriation: between social realities and globalization”
So, are you ready for this wonderful evening?
The two movies screened are:
1️⃣(short film) “ATLANTIQUES by Mati Diop (Senegal, 2009)”.
2️⃣(feature film) “LE RITE, LA FOLLE ET MOI by Gentille Assih (Togo, 2012 – documentary)”.
This program is curated by Valérie Osouf, Dyana Gaye.
“Through 128 films, 42 countries and 68 years of cinema history, Tigritudes* 1956-2024 draws a subjective and chronological anthology of the rich pan-African cinematography. Conceived by directors Dyana Gaye and Valérie Osouf, this cycle explores the circulation of forms and ideas in an area whose cinematography remains unjustly underexposed.
