Welcome to a new artistic residency: a discovery of Gambia through the lens of Myette Fauchère, a passionate photographer who has been exploring the world of portraiture for over 15 years. Myette Fauchère has devoted her career to questioning the complexity of the individual through captivating optical games. Her creations evoke a visual dance in which the individual seems to appear, disappear, seek and reveal himself in a subtle game of hide-and-seek.

At the heart of her projects, textile is a central, recurring element, acting as a veritable marker of our identities. Through elaborate staging, Myette’s characters evolve towards a singular enigma of being.

For this unique residency, Myette Fauchère focuses on the materiality of photography, exploring its interaction with different media. Her project comes to life through the use of local fabrics and traditional dyeing techniques. She will be accompanied by Musa Jaiteh, a Gambian artist renowned for his expertise in traditional textile dyeing.

Musa Jaiteh, a master textile artist, uses techniques such as sewing, knotting and wax stamping to create strength before hand-dyeing with kola nut and indigo. All fabrics used are 100% cotton, whether damask or lightweight canvas.

The union of Myette Fauchère’s unique vision with Musa Jaiteh’s exceptional skills promises a captivating exploration of visual art through the prism of photography, textiles and traditional dyeing. We look forward to sharing this artistic adventure with you!

And you’re invited to join in, as this residency will be punctuated by hands-on workshops for Alliance audiences! You’ll have the chance to discover dyeing techniques with Musa, and create works on original supports with Myette!
