From November 28 to December 13, 2023, we will be honored to welcome two exceptional artists: comic book artist Jean Denis Pendanx and screenwriter Laurent Galandon. Their mission is to plunge into the heart of Gambia to create an immersive and authentic comic strip, capturing the very essence of this magnificent country.
For two weeks, Mr Pendanx and Mr Galandon will immerse themselves in local Gambian life. They will explore its perfumes, landscapes and habits, capturing the nuances of local turns of phrase. Their ambition is to create a genuine work, offering Gambians an authentic representation of their reality, a unique literary experience.
Beyond their artistic commitment, the artists have a keen interest in environmental issues specific to the region. Thus, their final destination is Gunjur, where they will meet local actors committed to environmental protection, individuals affected by these issues, and activists.
This artists’ residency offers an exceptional opportunity to create a unique work showcasing The Gambia. The book resulting from this unique collaboration will be distributed in France and Gambia, enriching our library with this singular creation. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our many partners, who are helping to make this innovative project a reality.
At the end of the residency, a special restitution will take place, involving students from local schools. It’s a moment of sharing and celebration, where art and community meet. Stay tuned for live coverage of this exceptional artistic and social adventure!
