Since 2022, to coincide with the month of the Francophonie in March, the Alliance Française de Banjul has been organising the Cinécole Festival, which involves showing French-language films in various Gambian classrooms to familiarise children with the French language in a fun way.
On this occasion, the Alliance travels to the schools with its equipment and shows the films to dozens of pupils. For each school, we show two films: one for young children and one for teenagers. In 2023, for example, we visited four schools (SBEC, St Thérèse, Glory Baptist and the Ecole Française de Banjul) to screen Les contes de la nuit (Michel Ocelot, 2011) and La traversée (Florence Miailhe, 2021). In all, more than 350 pupils were able to see one of these two films that year!
