This Friday, May 23rd at 8:00 PM, the Alliance Française de Banjul presents The Tea Foam, a powerful and moving play by the renowned Senegalese company Bou-Saana, written and directed by Djibril GOUDIABY.
Beneath the comforting shade of a palaver tree in a West African village, Gilles, a talented young footballer, dreams of playing in Europe’s top stadiums and marrying Touls, the woman he loves.
With his friends, he shares tea, passionate discussions about Barça and Real Madrid, and above all, the hope that a European scout might one day discover them. One day, that dream seems to come true when a mysterious man appears… But not all dreams lead to happiness.
🎭 The Tea Foam is a satirical comedy—both humorous and heartfelt—that delicately explores:
🌍 The illusions of professional football
🧠 The naivety and vulnerability of African youth
🤝 The importance of friendship, family ties, and solidarity
Originally from Casamance in southern Senegal, Djibril GOUDIABY is a playwright, director, and founder of the Bou-Saana theatre company. Trained in Senegal, Italy, and France, he brings us a powerful work inspired by a stark reality: for many young Africans, football is seen as a golden ticket—sometimes misleading.
Through this play, he invites us to reflect on:
The role of dreams in shaping personal identity
The responsibility of adults in guiding the ambitions of youth
The need for critical thinking and well-rounded education
