Description: This exhibition explores the deep motivations that drive individuals to risk their lives, confronting the merciless waters of the Mediterranean in hope of a better future. It highlights the fate of thousands whose existence is profoundly affected by these perilous crossings.

The artist also addresses the silent distress of many women, trapped in seemingly inescapable situations. Among them, many find themselves abandoned by their loved ones at the very moment they are carrying life, adding a particularly poignant dimension to their story.

Beyond these individual stories, the exhibition raises crucial questions: How can we act to stem these desperate migratory flows? What solutions can we provide to restore hope to those who have lost it, offering them prospects for the future in their country of origin?

The artist: EBRIMA GITTEH is a talented 26-year-old Gambian artist, whose work oscillates between abstract and realistic painting. From a very young age, he nurtured a passion for art, engaging in various creative activities.

However, it was in 2017 that he became aware of the power of artistic expression, deciding then to abandon his other pursuits, notably football, to fully devote himself to his art. His artistic career takes off in 2019, when he is selected among promising young artists to participate in an international art exhibition at the Alliance Française in Banjul.

This opportunity marks a turning point in his journey, paving the way for a cascade of new ideas and inspirations. Building on this experience, Ebrima organizes his first solo exhibition in January 2021. Titled “EMPOWERING BREASTFEEDING”, it is held at the National Center for Art and Culture, with the support of the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA). The same year, in December, he presents “CHOOSAN” (meaning “culture” in the local language) at the Alliance Française, demonstrating his willingness to explore various themes through his art.

In 2023, Gitteh reaches a new milestone with the exhibition “CONNECTING HERITAGE” at the Key Art Gallery, benefiting from the sponsorship of the Teaching Art Institute (TAI) in the United States. This international collaboration testifies to the growing recognition of his talent.

Continuing his creative momentum, Ebrima Gitteh is currently preparing his next exhibition, “ESCAPE ADVERSITY”, scheduled for September 19, 2024 at the Alliance Française in Banjul. This new work promises to be a poignant exploration of contemporary challenges, reflecting the constant evolution of his artistic vision.
