The Alliance Française of Banjul is honored to present “Floating Pages,” an exhibition by artist Patrick Singh, the result of a two-month immersive artistic residency in the heart of The Gambia. The opening will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, starting at 5:00 PM at our premises and will run until February 27, 2025.
Through a series of drawings, portraits, and installations, Patrick Singh invites us to discover his unique vision of Gambian society. Each work is the result of a unique visual dialogue where lines intertwine with keywords, revealing the multiple facets of local culture. The artist transforms the exhibition space into a territory of encounters and exchanges, where each creation tells a story, and each portrait reveals an identity.
The exhibition addresses essential themes such as education and access to books through a subtle play of shadows and light. The highlight of the exhibition is a pirogue transformed into a library, a powerful metaphor for the transmission of knowledge and cultural sharing. This installation perfectly illustrates the artist’s approach, weaving links between tradition and modernity, between river culture and universal knowledge.
A unique opportunity to discover the sensitive gaze of an artist on the cultural richness of The Gambia, through an exhibition that promises to be as educational as it is poetic.
