“Dalva” is a poignant drama directed by Emmanuelle Nicot. The film immerses us in the disrupted life of Dalva, a 12-year-old girl who is suddenly removed from her family home and placed in a care facility.
Destabilized by this abrupt change, Dalva struggles to understand what is happening to her. Accustomed to living and dressing like an adult woman, she must now relearn how to be a child her age. Through interactions with her new companions at the facility and a caring educator, she begins a difficult but necessary process of healing.
The film sensitively and accurately addresses themes of child abuse, personal reconstruction, and resilience. Through Dalva’s perspective, we discover how a young girl can reclaim her lost innocence and rebuild her own identity.
“Dalva” is a moving work that confronts us with the realities of child abuse while offering a glimmer of hope about the human capacity for recovery and healing.
