Call for Applications

The recruitment campaign for English language assistants in France for the 2026-2027
school year is now open until February 8th, 2026. This program is a collaboration between the Embassy of France in The Gambia and The Ministry of Higher Education Research Science and Technology of The Gambia.

Become a language assistant in France!

  • This language assistant exchange program is open to candidates who meet the following
    criteria:
  • Proficient in French (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for
    Languages must be certified by a French teacher’s attestation);
  • Gambian nationality with permanent residence in The Gambia;
  • Native speakers of the English language;
  • Between 20 and 35 years old by 31/12/2026;
  • Regularly enrolled at the University of The Gambia or University of Education
    (Gambia College) at the time of application;
  • Holding a diploma equivalent to the 2nd year of a Bachelor’s degree (L2) at the time
    of application or arrival in France;

Mission

The aim of this program is to allow assistants to familiarize themselves with the French
language and civilization while providing schools with the authenticity of their language and
the richness of their culture. The program contributes to student mobility, offers training
opportunities, and helps in the professionalization process, thereby providing undeniable
value to their academic journey. The role of the English assistant is to enhance students’
communication skills (especially orally) and deepen their understanding of a different culture
and civilization. They support the work of English language teachers in the institution where
they are assigned under their supervision.

Working Conditions

Duration of the contract: 7 months from October 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027. The duration of
the stay cannot be shortened or modified. Assistants enjoy the same holidays as French
students and teachers.

A weekly workload of 12 hours of class time and around 12 hours of
preparation for lessons and activities is expected. You may also be asked to run a “club”
during lunch breaks for one hour per week. Positions are available in both primary and
secondary education. This service can be divided among one, two, or three schools.

Salary

Currently, the net monthly salary for an assistant in mainland France is between
€780 and €815, depending on the region. Please note that your first salary will be paid at the
end of November 2026.

You must be able to cover your expenses (housing, insurance, rental
deposit, phone subscription, living and installation costs) for the first two months in France. It
is recommended to have at least €1,700 (about 145,000 GMD) for your first two months in
France before receiving your first payment.

Social Coverage

Assistants are covered by French social security for the duration of their
contract. Liability insurance and complementary health insurance should be arranged.

Visa

The French Embassy in Senegal and Gambia provides a free visa. The assistant will
be required to travel to Dakar to conduct the visa procedures. In order to validate their visa,
they will have to pay 200 euros of fees within the 3 months after their arrival in France.

Travel

International travel to France is covered. The assistant will be responsible for their travel from the airport to the city which they are posted to.

Accomodation

Accommodation in France is the responsibility of the assistant. It is
essential to research rental prices in France and the regional disparities. Please note that the
cost of living varies by region. It is recommended to give preference to small towns. Be
aware of the high cost of living in Paris!

No applications will be accepted after February 8th, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to complete their applications as soon as possible. A jury reviews applications as soon as they are validated. This allows the team to contact candidates for interviews and to check if additional documents are needed to complete their applications. Do not wait until the last minute to submit your application on the ADELE
platform.


Travel to Serrekunda for recruitment interviews and information sessions will be required.
