From October 27 to November 20, 2025, the Alliance Française de Banjul welcomes Lena Nian — photographer, visual artist, and creative director — as part of the Peanut Queens Residency, in collaboration with the Khoros Film Festival.

An Artist Between Worlds

Born in Sweden to a Gambian father and Swedish mother, Lena Nian’s work explores identity, belonging, and cultural duality. Her photography bridges continents and perspectives, weaving together her heritage to create powerful, intimate images that honor individuality and human connection.

The Peanut Queens Project

At the Maison des Artistes Musa Ngum, Lena will bring her visual sensitivity and artistic eye to the collective creation of Peanut Queens, a short film celebrating Gambian women’s stories, strength, and resilience. Through this collaboration, she contributes her unique perspective as both artist and storyteller, visually shaping the film’s narrative of empowerment.

A Meeting of Perspectives

By supporting artists like Lena, the Alliance Française de Banjul reaffirms its commitment to cultural dialogue and artistic diversity. Her participation in the Peanut Queens Residency embodies the creative exchange that lies at the heart of the project — one that connects stories, generations, and worlds.
