An Artist Who Gives Voice to Women’s Stories

Aji Isatou Nyan is an actress, gender advocate, and storyteller who believes deeply in the power of stories to inspire change. Through her work on stage and in her community, she uses storytelling as a tool to spark dialogue, empower women and girls, and promote equality through art and performance.

Her practice combines creativity and activism, reflecting her commitment to using culture as a means of transformation and collective healing.

The Peanut Queens Project

During her 25-day residency, Aji will collaborate with Gambian filmmakers to co-develop the script for Peanut Queens, a short film exploring the power of women’s voices, solidarity, and creativity.
The project, co-produced by the Alliance Française de Banjul, seeks to celebrate Gambian women who are reshaping their communities through art, entrepreneurship, and resilience.

This residency embodies Aji’s vision: to use storytelling not only to entertain, but to awaken consciousness, encourage empathy, and inspire social change.
