The Alliance Française de Banjul welcomes, from September 22nd to October 16th, 2025, artist Cécile Cée for a creative comics residency, in collaboration with Annick Kamgang.
Cécile Cée, a graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, explores intimate and social subjects through photography and comics. Her first graphic novel, Ce que Cécile sait: Journal de sortie d’inceste (What Cécile Knows: A Journal of Escaping Incest), will be published in September 2024.
Her work is characterized by a particular sensitivity, precision of tone, and deep commitment, drawing on strong autobiographical and documentary dimensions that resonate with individual and collective journeys.
During this residency, Cécile Cée will meet Gambian women who work for social change in their community and country. These encounters will nourish her creative work, giving birth to graphic narratives that highlight their journeys, challenges, and successes.
Her sensitive approach and ability to handle complex subjects promise works that will capture the essence of these testimonies with respect and depth.
The project will culminate in an exhibition at the Alliance Française de Banjul, where Cécile Cée will share her work and interact with the public. These special moments will offer the opportunity to discuss the place of women in Gambian society and the artistic means of representing their struggles.
This artistic residency embodies a commitment to the transmission, memory, and valorization of women’s journeys, often overlooked but essential to understanding contemporary Gambia.
