« ROCK’N ROLL », by Guillaume Canet

Synopsis:

“Rock’n Roll” is a French dramatic comedy directed by Guillaume Canet, released in 2017. The film is a semi-autobiographical reflection on celebrity, aging, and the film industry.

Guillaume Canet, playing himself, is a successful actor and director. As he approaches his forties, he begins to feel the effects of time passing and starts to doubt himself. During a party, a young actress points out that he is no longer as “rock’n roll” as he used to be, plunging him into an existential crisis.

Determined to prove that he is still relevant, Guillaume decides to reinvent himself. He changes his look, adopts a younger style, and starts attending trendy parties. However, his attempts to regain his lost youth only make him appear more ridiculous in the eyes of those around him.

The film also explores the complex relationship between Guillaume and his partner Marion Cotillard, who also plays herself. “Rock’n Roll” is a biting satire on the world of cinema and the quest for eternal youth. With a mix of humor and more serious moments, the film offers an interesting reflection on the challenges of aging in the spotlight.
