Meet Justine Coulmy: Director of Photography in Residence in The Gambia

The Alliance Française de Banjul is pleased to welcome Justine Coulmy, a talented French director of photography, as part of the Khoros Cross-Cultural Residency program. This residency, a collaboration between the Khorus Film Foundation and the Alliance Française de Banjul, aims to promote intercultural exchanges through cinema.

At 26, Justine brings a unique perspective shaped by her dual background as a dancer and filmmaker. A graduate of the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière, she combines her technical expertise and artistic sensitivity to serve engaged documentary projects. Her filming style, deeply influenced by her dance background, is characterized by a particular attention to movement and the choreography of bodies in space.

During her residency in The Gambia in November 2024, Justine will oversee the direction of photography and color grading for a documentary project, enriching her work with aerial shots using a drone. This innovative technical approach allows her to capture the richness of Gambian heritage and local initiatives from a unique angle.
