We are pleased to welcome photographer Ina Makosi for an artistic residency at the Alliance Française de Banjul from October 1st to 31st, 2024. Coming from Senegal, Ina Makosi is known for her commitment to photography, exploring various subjects such as sports, urban cultures, women’s daily lives, and the environment.
During her residency, Ina Makosi will focus on a compelling photographic project: the emancipation of Gambian women. Her goal is to create a series of unique photographs to be presented in an exhibition at the end of her residency. Additionally, she will conduct three interactive “public interventions,” each lasting 2 to 3 hours. These diverse events will include meetings and sharing experiences with young Gambian photographers, as well as special sessions with students and women’s groups to showcase her work and discuss the themes explored.
Thus, her stay at Alliance Française de Banjul promises not only to capture the reality and diversity of Gambian women’s experiences but also to foster enriching exchanges within the local artistic and educational community.
This project is funded by the French Embassy in Senegal and The Gambia and implemented by the Alliance as part of the “We together for women’s empowerment” project: promoting women’s expression through the arts, culture, debate and entrepreneurship.
