This program is a collaboration between the Embassy of France in The Gambia and The Ministry of Higher Education Research Science and Technology of The Gambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Become a language assistant in France!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This language assistant exchange program is open to candidates who meet the following<br>criteria:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proficient in French (level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for<br>Languages must be certified by a French teacher&#8217;s attestation);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gambian nationality with permanent residence in The Gambia;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Native speakers of the English language;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Between 20 and 35 years old by 31\/12\/2026;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regularly enrolled at the University of The Gambia or University of Education<br>(Gambia College) at the time of application;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holding a diploma equivalent to the 2nd year of a Bachelor&#8217;s degree (L2) at the time<br>of application or arrival in France;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of this program is to allow assistants to familiarize themselves with the French<br>language and civilization while providing schools with the authenticity of their language and<br>the richness of their culture. The program contributes to student mobility, offers training<br>opportunities, and helps in the professionalization process, thereby providing undeniable<br>value to their academic journey. The role of the English assistant is to enhance students&#8217;<br>communication skills (especially orally) and deepen their understanding of a different culture<br>and civilization. They support the work of English language teachers in the institution where<br>they are assigned under their supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working Conditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Duration of the contract: 7 months from October 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027. The duration of<br>the stay cannot be shortened or modified. Assistants enjoy the same holidays as French<br>students and teachers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">A weekly workload of 12 hours of class time and around 12 hours of<br>preparation for lessons and activities is expected. You may also be asked to run a &#8220;club&#8221;<br>during lunch breaks for one hour per week. Positions are available in both primary and<br>secondary education. This service can be divided among one, two, or three schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Salary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the net monthly salary for an assistant in mainland France is between<br>\u20ac780 and \u20ac815, depending on the region. Please note that your first salary will be paid at the<br>end of November 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must be able to cover your expenses (housing, insurance, rental<br>deposit, phone subscription, living and installation costs) for the first two months in France. It<br>is recommended to have at least \u20ac1,700 (about 145,000 GMD) for your first two months in<br>France before receiving your first payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Social Coverage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistants are covered by French social security for the duration of their<br>contract. Liability insurance and complementary health insurance should be arranged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visa<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The French Embassy in Senegal and Gambia provides a free visa. The assistant will<br>be required to travel to Dakar to conduct the visa procedures. In order to validate their visa,<br>they will have to pay 200 euros of fees within the 3 months after their arrival in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:24px\">Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>International travel to France is covered. The assistant will be responsible for their travel from the airport to the city which they are posted to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accomodation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Accommodation in France is the responsibility of the assistant. It is<br>essential to research rental prices in France and the regional disparities. Please note that the<br>cost of living varies by region. It is recommended to give preference to small towns. Be<br>aware of the high cost of living in Paris!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistants must register on the ADELE platform starting December 18th, 2025, on this page:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/assistants.france-education-international.fr\/CreationCompte. \">https:\/\/assistants.france-education-international.fr\/CreationCompte <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No applications will be accepted after February 8th, 2026. Candidates are encouraged to complete their applications as soon as possible. A jury reviews applications as soon as they are validated. This allows the team to contact candidates for interviews and to check if additional documents are needed to complete their applications.
